Individual Therapy · San Diego, CA
You have been carrying this long enough. Let's find the root.
Individual therapy at New Birth Family Counseling isn't about managing your symptoms week to week. It's about understanding why they're there, addressing what drives them at the physiological and emotional level, and building a life where you're no longer defined by what you've been through.
Why we're different
Most therapy works with the mind alone. We work with the whole you.
Talk therapy can be powerful, but for many people it isn't enough on its own, because anxiety, low mood, and burnout often have physical roots that talking never reaches. As an integrative practice, we look at both at once: your thoughts and history, and the sleep, hormones, nutrition, and nervous-system patterns underneath them. One plan, built around the whole picture of you.
What we help with
Support for what you're carrying
Every person and plan is different. These are some of the most common reasons people come to us for individual therapy.
Anxiety & overwhelm
Chronic worry, panic, perfectionism, and the physical toll of living on high alert.
Depression & low mood
Heaviness, numbness, and loss of motivation, addressed at the mind and body level.
Trauma & PTSD
Healing from past experiences through trauma therapy and EMDR.
Burnout & stress
For high achievers running on empty, with care that treats the cause, not just the symptoms.
Life transitions
Divorce, loss, career change, and the identity shifts that come with them.
Self-esteem & identity
Rebuilding confidence, self-worth, and a clearer sense of who you are.
Grief & loss
Moving through loss at your own pace, with support for both heart and body.
Relationship patterns
Understanding the patterns you keep repeating, and learning to choose differently.
Our approach
Care designed around you, not a protocol
You're not a diagnosis, and your treatment shouldn't be a template. We build your plan from your full story: your history, your nervous system, your health, and your goals. Then we choose the tools that actually fit.
- A personalized plan, not a one-size-fits-all protocol
- Attention to the body: sleep, hormones, nutrition, and stress physiology
- Evidence-based methods paced to what feels safe for you
- Care available in person in San Diego and via telehealth across California

Common questions
What people usually ask
What is individual therapy?
Individual therapy is one-on-one work between you and your therapist to understand and heal what you're struggling with, whether that's anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, or a life transition. At New Birth, it's integrative, meaning we address both the emotional and physical roots of what you're experiencing.
What do you help with?
Anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, burnout and stress, grief, self-esteem, life transitions, and recurring relationship patterns, among others. If you're not sure whether we're the right fit, the free consultation is the place to find out.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on your goals and what you're working through. Some people come for a focused stretch of a few months; others stay longer for deeper work. We'll talk openly about a realistic path and revisit it as you go.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. Individual therapy is available via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth anywhere in California, as well as in person in San Diego.
Do you take insurance?
New Birth is a cash-pay practice, which lets us design your care fully around you rather than around insurance limits. We're happy to walk through fees and options on your consultation call.
