Individual therapy  ·  San Diego, CA

You have been carrying this
long enough. Let's find the root.

Individual therapy at New Birth Family Counseling is not about managing your symptoms week to week. It is about understanding why they are there, addressing what drives them at the physiological and emotional level, and building a life where you are no longer defined by what you have been through.

You may be ready for
this kind of therapy if...

Most people who come to NBFC have already tried other approaches. They have been to therapy before, or they have pushed through on their own. Something keeps pulling them back to the same place.

If any of these feel familiar, you are in the right place.

Trauma that won't stay in the past Old experiences keep showing up in your present, your relationships, or your body in ways you can't explain or control.
Anxiety or burnout that has become your baseline You have normalized a state of constant stress, exhaustion, or dread and you cannot remember what it felt like to feel okay.
Depression that feels physical, not just emotional Low energy, brain fog, mood instability, and sleep disruption alongside the emotional weight. Your body is speaking too.
A feeling that something deeper is wrong You have tried managing symptoms and it is not enough. You want to understand the root cause and actually heal it.

This is not ordinary
talk therapy.

A standard therapy session addresses what you bring into the room that week. At NBFC, we go further. Your first session begins a process of understanding your whole system, not just your presenting symptoms.

01
Integrated health assessment at intake
Before your first therapy session, we conduct a comprehensive intake that explores your emotional history, physical health, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, hormones, and ancestral patterns. This gives us a map that most therapists never draw.
03
EMDR and somatic therapy for trauma stored in the body
Trauma does not live only in your mind. EMDR and somatic approaches work at the level of the nervous system, processing what the body has held onto long after the events have passed. These are among the most evidence-based trauma treatments available.
04
A care plan built around you, not a protocol
No two clients at NBFC follow the same path. Your treatment plan is built from your specific history, physiology, relationships, and goals. Every session is intentional and moves you forward.

Your journey from
first contact to lasting change.

We have designed every step of the client experience to feel clear, supported, and intentional. Here is what your path looks like from the moment you reach out.

Advanced tools for
deep healing.

We draw from a wide range of evidence-based and integrative modalities, always selecting what your unique situation calls for rather than applying a standard protocol.

EMDR Brainspotting Somatic therapy CBT DBT ACT Mindfulness Herbal medicine Functional nutrition Hormone support Nervous system regulation Spiritual alignment
EMDR and Brainspotting
Bilateral stimulation techniques that process trauma held in the nervous system, often achieving in weeks what years of talk therapy cannot reach.
Somatic and body-based therapy
Trauma lives in the body. Somatic approaches help you reconnect with physical sensations of safety, regulate your nervous system, and release what has been held.
Herbal medicine and functional nutrition
Therapeutic herbs and nutrition protocols that support brain chemistry, hormonal balance, and cellular health as part of your overall care plan.
CBT, DBT, and mindfulness
Evidence-based cognitive and behavioral approaches for building emotional resilience, shifting patterns, and developing practical tools for everyday wellbeing.

Transparent pricing,
no surprises.

How is NBFC different from seeing a regular therapist?+
Most therapists focus exclusively on the psychological and emotional dimensions of your experience. At NBFC, we also assess your physical health, nutrition, hormone levels, sleep, and lifestyle as part of your intake. We incorporate herbal medicine and functional nutrition into care plans where appropriate, and we use advanced trauma modalities like EMDR and Brainspotting alongside traditional therapy. The result is a genuinely whole-person approach that very few outpatient practices offer.
How long will I be in therapy?+
This depends entirely on what you are working through and your goals. Some clients experience significant breakthroughs in 8 to 12 sessions, particularly with focused trauma work using EMDR. Others benefit from longer-term support as they work through layered or complex experiences. We review your progress regularly and you are always in control of the pace and length of your care.
Do I have to do EMDR or herbal medicine?+
Not at all. Every care plan is tailored to you. EMDR, Brainspotting, herbal medicine, and functional nutrition are all tools available to us, but nothing is prescribed without your full understanding and consent. We discuss every element of your care plan together and you are always an active participant in those decisions.
Can I do therapy virtually?+
Yes. All of our individual therapy services are available via secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth for clients throughout California. Many clients prefer the accessibility and privacy of virtual sessions. In-person sessions are available at our San Diego location for those who prefer to meet face to face.
What if I have tried therapy before and it didn't help?+
Many of our clients come to us after previous therapy experiences that felt incomplete or surface-level. Our integrative model often reaches what traditional talk therapy cannot because we look at the whole picture, including the physiological roots of emotional and mental health challenges. If you have tried therapy before and are still struggling, that is exactly who we built this practice for.
