About Gevena

Gevena Cunningham is a graduate trainee in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Grand Canyon University, completing her clinical training at New Birth Family Counseling. She believes good therapy should be within reach for everyone, and she is now welcoming new clients.

Gevena describes herself as fair, quiet, and reliable, and clients can expect exactly that: a calm, steady presence, honest and straightforward conversation, and a space where they feel heard without judgment. She takes time to understand each person's story before moving forward, and she follows through on what she starts.

Before counseling, Gevena spent eight years with Delta Air Lines, where she learned to stay steady under pressure and to care for people from every walk of life. She is especially drawn to supporting people through anxiety and depression, grief and loss, and the changes that come with midlife, as well as children and families. She sees clients in person at our Mission Valley office and by telehealth anywhere in California.

Who Gevena works with

Anxiety & depression

Support for worry, low mood, stress, and the heaviness that makes everyday life feel harder than it should.

Grief & loss

A gentle, patient space to grieve a person, a relationship, or a season of life, at your own pace.

Women in midlife

Care for the emotional side of midlife changes, shifting roles, and finding your footing again.

Children & families

Warm, steady support for children and the families who love them, with parents included along the way.

Lower-fee therapy that fits your week

Gevena sees clients on weekday evenings and Thursdays, so therapy can fit around work, school, and family life. As a clinician in training, she offers lower-fee sessions, starting at $125, making whole-person care at New Birth easier to reach.

As a counseling trainee, Gevena provides therapy under the clinical supervision of Diamond Griffin, LCSW, and is supported by the full New Birth clinical team.
