New Birth Family Counseling

Move through it in days, not years.

Private, doctorate-led trauma intensives for people who are ready to stop circling the same pain. One focused block of deep work can do what months of weekly sessions often cannot.

What it is

Concentrated trauma work, built around your recovery

A trauma intensive compresses the work of many separate therapy sessions into a focused day, or a few focused days. Instead of opening something painful for fifty minutes and then closing it back up for a week, we stay with it long enough to actually move it.

The format is structured, paced for your nervous system, and built around one goal: helping you carry less out than you brought in. This is not a vacation and it is not a quick fix. It is deep, guided work. Difficult feelings will surface, and you will be supported through every part of it by a clinician trained to keep that process safe.

Who it is for

You do not have to be in crisis to do this work

Most of the people who come to us are functioning, capable, and quietly worn down by something they have never fully processed.

One clear event

An accident, an assault, a loss, or a medical event you want to process and move past without dragging it out for a year.

Stuck in weekly therapy

You have done months, or years, of talk therapy and feel like you keep circling the same drain without real relief.

Veterans and first responders

PTSD, moral injury, and the weight carried home from service. Led by a Navy veteran who serves veterans in her practice.

High-responsibility lives

Business owners, clinicians, parents, and leaders who cannot build their healing around a standing weekly appointment.

Traveling in? Many clients fly into San Diego for their intensive. Because the work is done in person at our Mission Valley office, we can welcome clients from out of state the same way we do for our couples intensives.

Why an intensive instead of weekly therapy

Weekly trauma therapy at $200 a session for six months is roughly $4,800, and closer to $9,600 across a full year, spread over dozens of visits, most of them spent re-entering the material before you can even work with it.

An intensive concentrates that work, removes the constant re-entry, and gets you moving forward in a fraction of the calendar time. It costs more per block and less per breakthrough.

The formats

Choose the depth that fits what you are carrying

Every intensive includes a pre-intensive assessment so the work is mapped before we begin, and a follow-up integration session to protect what you gained.

Half-Day Intensive
One focused day · about 3 hours of processing
$1,200 – $1,500

Best for clients who

  • Have one clear thing to work through
  • Want to experience the intensive format first
  • Need momentum, not a full rebuild

Includes pre-intensive consult, a 3-hour focused block, and one integration follow-up.

Full-Day Intensive
One full day, about 6 hours (or two half-days)
$2,400 – $2,800

Best for clients who

  • Are carrying more than one memory or theme
  • Want real movement in a single commitment
  • Can go deep for a day with proper breaks

Includes pre-intensive assessment and preparation, a full processing day, and an integration follow-up.

A 50% deposit reserves your dates, with the remaining balance due before your intensive begins. Payment plans are available.

The approach

Trauma work that treats the whole person, not just the memory

The intensives draw on EMDR and other evidence-based trauma methods, delivered through an integrative, mind-body lens. Trauma is not only talked about here. It is understood as something held in the nervous system and the body, and treated that way.

What every intensive includes

  • A private, one-on-one focus. This is your time, entirely.
  • A pre-intensive assessment, so the work is mapped before we begin rather than figured out on the clock.
  • Processing paced with real breaks, because safety is part of the treatment, not an add-on.
  • A follow-up integration session to protect what you gained and plan your next step.
  • A clinician who understands trauma from more than a textbook.

About your clinician

Dr. Regina Ransom is a doctorate-level, EMDR-Certified clinician and a U.S. Navy veteran who serves veterans in her practice. Her approach is integrative and whole-person, treating trauma as something carried in the body, not only spoken about in a chair. Clients describe her work as the rare combination of clinical depth and lived understanding.

A note on safety. Intensive trauma work brings powerful material to the surface quickly, so every intensive is built with stabilization, careful pacing, and follow-up care. This page is for information and is not medical advice, and an intensive is not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in immediate distress, call or text 988 at any time.

Questions

Before you reach out

Is this actually therapy?

Yes. Intensives are a concentrated format of psychotherapy delivered by a licensed, EMDR-Certified clinician.

Do you take insurance?

Intensives are cash-pay. On request we can provide an itemized receipt, called a superbill, that some clients submit to their insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your plan.

Do you offer EMDR intensives specifically?

Yes. EMDR is one of the core methods used in these intensives, and it is often a strong fit for concentrated trauma work. We will confirm the right approach for you during your consultation.

Can I fly in from out of state?

Yes. Many clients travel to San Diego for their intensive. The work is done in person at our Mission Valley office, and we are glad to help you plan the timing around your travel.

How do I know if I am a fit?

That is what the consultation is for. We will talk through what you are carrying and whether an intensive, and which format, is the right container for it. If it is not, we will tell you.

How do I reserve my dates?

After your consultation, a 50% deposit reserves your intensive dates on the calendar, and the remaining balance is due before we begin. We will walk you through each step.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment plans are available so you can spread the cost of your intensive over time. We will go over the options with you before you commit.

What happens after the intensive?

Every intensive includes follow-up integration. Afterward we will map out whether you need continued work, a hand-off to your regular therapist, or simply to go live your life with more room in it.

You have carried it long enough.

Let us help you set it down. Reach out for a consultation and we will find the right starting point together.
